Things I'm looking forward to this Summer

Less than 2 weeks left of this term - the Summer holiday is in sight!

Now, I don't have a favourite season, as I think there's something special about them all. I love the cosiness of Winter, Autumn walks, Spring = my birthday (otherwise this is probably my least favourite season) but Summer... For students especially, looking forward to Summer gets us through the last few weeks of the school year. Almost like a bright light at the end of a tunnel we call the academic year...

OK, so that might be a tad unfair, I do like school really. But after finishing AS exams over a month ago, I get the sense at school that very few people feel really motivated right now to do lots of work. I think that's down to the fact that everyone needs and deserves a break!

However, I spend a large proportion of my time working over Summer too, as it's the busiest season for us. And as we close during the Winter months, I have to try to earn enough to last me through the down-season *violins* - but that's not to say I don't have some free time over Summer. So, I've written a short list of things I've planned (and others which I hope) to do during the 6-week break.

1. Spending every waking hour at the beach - The beach in Southend is my favourite place in the entire world, and I consider myself incredibly fortunate to have a beach-hut along Southend seafront. Some people who come to Southend speak negatively of the beach, all because it's 'too stony'. I completely disagree of course - it's all part of it's character!

2. Eating my body weight in ice-cream - As I mentioned in my first post, I work in an ice-cream parlour/cafe along the sea-front. Working there definitely has its perks, to the detriment of my dream of having a 'Summer bod'...

3. Evenings outside - Banishing coats, sitting outside with bare arms at night, roasting marshmallows round a fire. It's all about life's simple pleasures!

4. London visits - My second favourite place in the world, and I would do anything to live there again. But for now, all I can do is visit, which is so much easier in the Summer with more free time and daylight hours. My first stop is to see the Alexander McQueen 'Savage Beauty' exhibition at the V&A Museum, which I'm very much looking forward to.

5. Hacking in the sunshine

6. Festivals - My first festival of the year, the Village Green festival, takes place this weekend, and I'm also going to V Festival at the end of August.. lucky me!

7. Brunch - Wake up late? Don't worry! Hungry before an acceptable lunch time? Don't worry! If I could, everyday would be a 'Brunch' day.

8. Barbecues - Nothing screams Summer more than a BBQ in the sunshine, right?

9. Going make-up free - Embrace the freckles!

10. Holidays  - I was lucky enough to go to Crete a few weeks ago for a post-exam, de-stress trip, so I've definitely had my fair share of holidays this year. However, my parents have offered to take my brothers and I on holiday again in the Summer holiday, but I suggested that I have a go at booking it this time (what a mistake that was!). I can't say that I've made much progress thus far. Booking a holiday for a family of 5 is a little daunting... not to mention the responsibility! Thinking about it, perhaps one holiday is enough for this year...
